The Gold Standard of Driver Training

Every day, the yellow school bus becomes a familiar symbol of safety and routine for families across the Durham Region. At T.G.T Inc., we take that responsibility seriously. Our TGT protocols are more than just a list of rules; they are the professional standards that our drivers live by to ensure every rider is protected from the moment they step out their door until they safely return home.

Our Safety Commitment

At the core of our transport operations is a "Safety First" culture. We ensure peace of mind for our clients and the well-being of our passengers through three key standards:

  1. Continuous Connectivity: Every vehicle in our fleet is equipped with 2-way radio systems, ensuring our drivers are never out of reach. This allows for real-time traffic updates, immediate emergency reporting, and seamless coordination with dispatch.

  2. Emergency Preparedness: You are in safe hands. 100% of our drivers are certified in CPR and First Aid, ensuring they are equipped to act as immediate first responders should the need arise.

  3. Elite Vetting & Compliance: Security is non-negotiable. All staff undergo rigorous criminal background checks and motor vehicle record (MVR) screenings. To maintain our high standards, we enforce ongoing certifications and regular training intervals throughout the year.

Our Safety Standards

1

The Gold Standard of Driver Training

Safety starts behind the wheel. We don’t just hire drivers; we develop safety professionals.

  • Comprehensive Preparation: Our drivers undergo hours of intensive training before they ever hit the road.

  • Beyond Driving: Training includes CPR, first aid, technical development, stress management, and customer service.

  • Constant Accountability: We regularly review our drivers' performance to ensure they continue to meet our high standards for reliability and care.

2

Our Rigorous Safety Protocols

To keep our community safe, we adhere to strict federal and provincial regulations while maintaining our own internal checks.

  • Maintenance & Inspections: Every bus meets government safety regulations. In addition to daily driver inspections, each vehicle undergoes thorough mechanical checks at licensed inspection stations at least twice a year.

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Our buses are equipped with GPS radio systems, allowing us to track routes and maintain constant contact with our drivers at all times.

  • Enhanced Visibility: We utilize the latest safety technology, including the Eight Lamp Amber-Red system, which uses stages of flashing lights to clearly signal when a bus is slowing down (amber) and stopping (red).

Empowering Our Riders: The "Safe Way"

Professional standards aren't just for staff—they involve the whole community. We encourage parents to review these key safety habits with their children:

  • Respect the "Danger Zone": This is the 3-metre (10 giant steps) area around the bus where a driver’s visibility is limited.

  • Wait for the Signal: Students should never approach or cross in front of the bus until it has come to a complete stop and the driver has given a clear hand signal to proceed.

  • On-Board Conduct: Once inside, riders must find a seat quickly, face forward, and keep aisles clear of bags or instruments. Quiet voices are essential so the driver can focus on the road.

Safety is a shared journey. By following these protocols, our drivers and our community work together to make the school bus the safest way for our children to travel.
